Dorcel presents the first ethics charter for French adult-content production

After more than four months of work and investigation initiated and funded by Dorcel, the working group composed of the actress, director and producer of adult films Liza Del Sierra, the sociologist Alexandre Duclos, and the lawyer Matthieu Cordelier has drawn up an ethics charter and 18 recommendations to improve the quality of working life of adult-content industry professionals and move towards a more accountable production.

Paris, April, 2021 – Dorcel is proud to present to the public and to the entire adult film industry the first ethics charter for French adult-content production. Along with 18 recommendations, this charter is the result of investigative work carried out from December 2020 to March 2021 by the actress, director and producer of adult films Liza Del Sierra, the sociologist Alexandre Duclos, Ph.D. in sociology, Ph.D. in philosophy and lecturer at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Matthieu Cordelier, a lawyer specializing in intellectual property and digital law. For four months, this working group, initiated and funded by Dorcel, conducted interviews, collected, and analyzed the expectations and recommendations made freely and anonymously by 31 people linked to the adult-content industry: actresses and actors, producers, broadcasters, directors and production assistants, photographers, make-up artists, as well as customers and the representative of an association linked to sex workers. All these participants were also invited to comment on the draft charter and to amend it. Therefore, it is truly a charter co-constructed, through a consultation, by the protagonists of this industry.

Considering its initial purpose, the charter and its 18 appended recommendations respond to the main concerns expressed by the professionals interviewed throughout the study. These recommendations cover the areas of consent, physical and psychological health, legal framework, respect for human dignity, confidentiality, and communication. It highlights the well-being and protection of each person working on the sets, according to their needs and their activity. Both tools are intended to bring substantial improvements in the quality of life at work for XXX-industry professionals in France and to promote increasingly ethical and accountable production.

Dorcel has always been committed to the protection of minors and to a quality and accountable X-rated production. However, we are aware that there is still room for improvement in the production methods used by our industry, including ourselves, so we initiated the development of this charter four months ago. We are very satisfied with the work accomplished by Liza Del Sierra, Alexandre Duclos and Matthieu Cordelier, and we are committed to implementing the principles of this charter and to respecting its values and ethics, for the well-being of everyone involved in our productions. We hope the conclusions of this work and the resulting recommendations will unite all the protagonists of the industry in France and abroad and thus contribute to a positive evolution in the adult-content production industry “ states Grégory Dorcel, Head of the Dorcel Group.

In addition to the strict rules it already follows, Dorcel is the first producer in the industry to commit to applying this charter to all its film shoots. The Dorcel brand will publish, transparent and accessible to all, the precise conditions of the implementation of this charter, which will benefit each professional involved in its productions.

It will then be necessary to convince as many of its French and non-French content providers as possible to join this set of good practices.

The charter and the 18 detailed recommendations are available at

About Alexandre Duclos

Born in Montreal, Alexandre Duclos holds a PhD in sociology and a PhD in political philosophy. He graduated from the Sciences Po Paris and teaches political anthropology and sociology at the University of Panthéon-Sorbonne. He works mainly on political sociology and political anthropology. Within this framework, he has dealt with very different objects: the production of political culture in a constrained environment (Kosovo under UNMIK supervision in 2005, a Roma Emergency Reception Center in Montreuil, 2010-2012), and the will to produce a tailor-made political culture for globalized peoples. On both themes, he has completed two theses, one in political philosophy from Paris 7 (2013) and the other in sociology from Panthéon-Sorbonne, under the direction of Sophie Poirot-Delpech and Alain Gras.

On the production of political culture, Alexandre Duclos has also worked on riots as a place of re-appropriation of the creation of norms. On this subject, one can especially read “Sociologie de l’inconscient collectif, du rassemblement à l’émeute”, “Une émeute de rêve” or see Bruno Aguila’s documentary “Le Pavé de Paris”.

Alexandre Duclos works for Cetcopra on acceptability procedures confronting people with technical projects. He has especially worked on a mapping of the ethical stakes of the Cigéo radioactive waste burial site project in Bure, and on the Flexblue project with DCNS.
